Photos Of Wind Farms and Wind Turbines Giant wind turbines are becoming more and more a part of the rural landscape of America. Below are some photos of wind turbines and large wind farms in Texas and other states. Many of the wind turbine photos here were taken in the "wind corridor", an area of the United States that is ideal for wind production and which runs from around Abilene Texas to the Canadian Border. Below is a photo of the moon rising behind a large Vestas wind turbine near the town of Sweetwater, Texas.
Below is a photo of a wind farm and turbines with the sun setting behind. I took this photo near the town of Sterling City, Tx.
Below is a photo of a wind farm next to an oil pump jack. Here you see old ways of obtaining energy side by side with new technology. Next to it is a photo of a wind turbine taken from the base. Notice how the blades of the turbine are curved like that of an airplane wing. The tower of this wind turbine is made of hollow steel, while the blades and housing on top are made of fiberglass and composite materials such as carbon fiber for high strength - low weight. The housing at the top, which contains the actual generator, is where electricity is made. This rectangular structure is about the same sized as a large travel trailer or school bus.
